Hotels Near Cocoa Beach

Where to stay in and near Cocoa Beach, Orlando's closest beach: oceanfront hotels, Cape Canaveral and Port Canaveral options, drive times and local tips.

Cocoa Beach is Orlando's beach. It is the closest stretch of Atlantic sand to the theme parks, about an hour east on the Beachline, and it has the laid-back surf-town feel you would expect from Kelly Slater's hometown: an old wooden pier, shortboard breaks, fish tacos and a flagship surf shop that never closes.

Staying on the coast for a few nights turns a day trip into a real beach vacation, and puts you minutes from Kennedy Space Center and Port Canaveral. This guide covers the best areas and hotels, drive times and the local spots worth knowing about.

Local tips

Paddle the Thousand Islands

Behind the beach, the mangrove islands in the Banana River are a local favorite for kayaking with manatees and dolphins. On summer nights, guided tours paddle through glowing bioluminescent water.

Lori Wilson Park for a quieter beach

When the pier area is crowded, locals head to Lori Wilson Park, with boardwalks through a small maritime forest and plenty of parking.

Ron Jon never closes

The flagship Ron Jon Surf Shop is open around the clock. Rent a board or a bike there and ride the beach at low tide.

Watch for launches

Rockets launching from Cape Canaveral are often visible from the beach. Check the launch schedule while you are in town.
